You Can Come Get Some with EVIL DEAD: THE GAME Next Year
Groovy, the highly anticipated wait will end in February and we have the details on what you can expect from Evil Dead: The Game.
The Evil Dead franchise has been delighting horror fans since the early 1980s when the sleeper hit film of the same name, directed by Sam Raimi (Drag Me To Hell, Don't Breathe) and produced by Raimi, Robert Tapert, and star Bruce Campbell was released. The Evil Dead (1981) spawned a media franchise and the lead protagonist, Ash Williams, has become a cultural icon. It’s been 40-years, but horror fans can finally enjoy a gaming experience that allows them to step into the shoes of Ash Williams or one of his friends from the iconic franchise. Evil Dead: The Game will make its way to horror fans in February 2022. We've got the details about the gameplay you can expect from the world premiere of the Official Gameplay Trailer that dropped during Summer Game Fest on June 10, 2021.
The game features Bruce Campbell as the voice of Ash Williams, but players can enjoy a multiplayer experience, as one of his companions from across the Evil Dead universe. Choose to play as Ash’s little sister, Cheryl Williams, Scotty, Lord Arthur, Pablo Simon Bolivar, or Kelly Maxwell. Players have the option to fight for the forces of good or evil, by taking control of a Kandarian Demon to hunt Ash and his friends while possessing Deadites, the environment, and other survivors. Characters in the game will be recognizable from The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987), Army of Darkness (1993), and Ash vs. Evil Dead (2015). A fourth sequel, Evil Dead Rise began filming in June 2021 with Lee Cronin (The Hole In The Ground) directing. Filming wrapped in August 2021, but there’s no word yet on when that title is set to release, or if it will be incorporated into the game. Cronin has continued to see fans under the hashtag #EvilDeadRise during filming on social media.
Evil Dead: The Game will feature visuals that capture the look and feel of The Evil Dead franchise, with realistic visuals and a physics-based gore system. You’ll recognize from the gameplay trailer familiar locations from within the universe that horror fans know and love. As one of the heroes, you’ll engage in combat against the Deadites, using a variety of weapons and performing savage finishing moves; Boomstick and Chainsaw included. Players will also have objectives like collecting pages from the Necronomicon, uncovering Professor Knowby’s lost tapes, and tracking down legendary artifacts. When you’ve collected enough materials, you’ll have the power to banish the Kandarian Demon back to hell.
The latest reveal on Twitter this month is that the late Henrietta Knowby will be joining the Deadite forces of darkness. Based on the gameplay trailer alone, we can’t wait to jump into the world of Evil Dead with our friends in horror. We love the franchise and can’t wait to rally against the Deadites. Be sure to keep watching the trailer until the very end, or you’ll miss a special appearance from Evil Ash, the main antagonist of Army of Darkness.
The game was originally set to release in October 2021, but Saber Interactive, the studio behind the game pushed back the release date to February 2022. This decision was made to give developers additional time to polish the game and implement a single-player option providing players with additional ways to enjoy the content. You can “come get some” on PC, Xbox One, Xbox X|S, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, and Nintendo Switch next year. An official launch date in February has yet to be set for the game.
After additional delays, Evil Dead: The Game will release on May 13, 2022.
