Supernatural Prequel Spin-Off THE WINCHESTERS Comes to The CW with a Dark and Comedic Trailer

Nothing really ever ends, does it? The Winchesters will follow the love story of Mary and John with Jensen Ackles narrating the series.

Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger star as Mary Campbell Winchester and John Winchester in Supernatural spin-off, THE WINCHESTERS on The CW.

Filming has wrapped on the first season of the spin-off series The Winchesters. The series producers are Jensen Ackles, who played the lead role of Dean Winchester in the television series Supernatural (2005), and his wife Danneel Ackles, who also appeared on the show as a recurring guest star. Robbie Thompson will also be returning as part of the series’ production crew.

The Winchesters is set in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1972. While the spin-off won’t be following brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester, it will follow their parent’s love story as they battle monsters, demons, and all the other supernatural creatures audiences have loved. Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger star as Mary Campbell Winchester and John Winchester while Jensen Ackles will return to narrate his parent’s story as Dean. It appears viewers will also be meeting older generations of Winchesters, further exploring the family of monster hunters, including Millie Winchester (Bianca Kajlich), John’s mother.

While there is no official release date, as of yet, The CW ordered the series last month after greenlighting the pilot episode. The CW usually premieres its fall shows in October. With any luck, it won’t be too much longer before the Supernatural universe is back on our screens. I’m eager to learn more about John and Mary’s relationship. Mary’s death was a plot point in the pilot episode of the original series. It’ll be interesting to see what she’s like and if there are any similarities to her sons, Sam and Dean, and their lives as hunters.
