Screen Media’s Upcoming Release MONSTROUS Marks Christina Ricci's Return to Horror Films

Christina Ricci is making a triumphant come back to horrific supernatural thrillers and we’re here for all of it.

Christina Ricci as troubled mother, Laura in new supernatural horror film, Monstrous directed by Chris Siverston.

Directed by Chris Siverston (The Lost, I Know Who Killed Me), with a screenplay by Carol Chrest (The Prophet’s Game), Monstrous is a supernatural thriller starring, Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets, Lizzie Borden Took An Axe)—who’s also slated to return to the Addams Family in the upcoming series Wednesday (2022)—playing Laura, and her son, Cody (Santino Barnard) who are traumatized and fleeing from her abusive ex-husband. They settle down in their new remote home in California, not suspecting that there is a more terrifying monster nearby.

Ricci is no stranger to the horror genre. This will be her first horror film since the unsettling After.Life (2009) and Wes Craven’s Cursed (2005). Let’s not forget Sleepy Hollow (1999) and Casper (1995)? Sure, they were a while ago. Monstrous gives me Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) vibes and I do not doubt that Ricci’s portrayal of a troubled mother, will deliver. Production began on the film in December 2020 in Los Angeles, California throughout Simi Valley, Sherman Oaks, and Altadena. before premiering in the FrightFest section of the Glasgow Film Festival in March and was quickly acquired by Screen Media.

“The glossy, twist-filled Monstrous is exactly the kind of unforgettable thriller we’re eager to release,” said Screen Media in a statement. “The film is all the more special thanks to the iconic charm of Christina Ricci in a complex lead performance.”

Monstrous hits theaters and digital VOD on May 13, 2022. A new trailer for the film was released today!
