New Trailer Released for Mattie Do’s Sci-Fi Horror Mystery THE LONG WALK Ahead Of Release
Mattie Do's 'The Long Walk' has a new trailer and poster released ahead of the theatrical and digital release of the film due in theaters in February.
The Long Walk world premiered to great acclaim at the Venice Film Festival in the Giornate degli Autori section and was followed by praise out of the Toronto International Film Festival. It’s the third feature of Lao based director Mattie Do (Chanthaly, Dearest Sister), whose career has been recognized by the Oldenburg International Film Festival and Locarno International Film Festival for her breakthrough work as Lao’s first and only woman filmmaker, and the only filmmaker of the country to work in the horror and fantastic genres. The film has a new theatrical poster designed by Midnight Marauder that released alongside its new trailer.
A deliberately paced story that burns with intensity and human emotion, The Long Walk is all at once a culturally rich ghost story, a grim near-future sci-fi, and mystery with life and death stakes that spans across decades. The film follows an old man who walks the dusty roads between his isolated farm and the nearby rural village in the company of a silent spirit whose death he witnessed fifty years earlier. For decades, the old man's regret over losing his mother to tuberculosis has bred a pathological need to ease the suffering of the terminally ill, and over the years, he has quietly euthanized several sick women. As he realizes that his spectral companion is able to transport him back in time, the old man trespasses into his own past to set in motion a plan to convince his younger self to preempt his mother's terminal suffering.
Screen International calls the film a “metaphysical mind-melting horror” and Slash Film calls it “emotional, raw-to-the-bone filmmaking.”
The film was written by Christopher Larsen (Creepshow, Dearest Sister) and produced by Do, Larsen, and Annick Mahnert with Justin Deimen, and Abhi Rastogi serving as executive producers. It stars Yannawoutthi Chanthalungsy, Vilouna Phetmany, Por Silatsa, Noutnapha Soydara, Chanthamone Inoudome, and Vithaya Sombath.
Mattie Do stated this about the film, "When I decided to set my third feature film in a rural Lao village, I knew that I wanted to tell my story exclusively from the point of view of a villager caught in the middle of a wave of modernization. I wanted to limit the scope of my story to the personal interactions of a single protagonist to examine his experience as a microcosm of greater societal trends...The Long Walk is the story of a single Lao farmer trying to seize control of his own solitary existence between the cracks of modern development, a nd the alienation of being left behind."
Yellow Veil Pictures, The Long Walk will be released in theaters on February 18, 2022 and released on digital and on-demand on March 1, 2022.
