Hear Us Scream: The Voices of Horror Volume Two

Cat Benstead and her team are hard at work on their next essay anthology for Hear Us Scream.

Cat Benstead, Co-EIC of horror outlet Hear Us Scream started the publication on a whim with a tweet into the void that asked if anyone might be interested in contributing to a book of essays for women and non-binary horror fans. A year and a half later, her team has grown into a thriving online horror publication and a community of nearly 100 members. Benstead and the team are working to produce the next iteration of their essay anthology series Hear Us Scream: The Voices of Horror Volume Two. The anthology will again include personal essays by women and non-binary genre fans from across the horror community. This time, it will showcase the essays of nearly 40 talented writers, all of which have very personal and powerful takes on the horror genre.

As an independent horror publication, they are actively seeking funding to launch Volume Two. Ideally, they hope to crowdsource the necessary funding to compensate their contributors, who work very hard to produce these insightful pieces. This publication is fighting to build “supportive, genuine connections and safer spaces for women and non-binary folks in the horror community.” They want to give a platform to the marginalized voices which are often silenced and overshadowed in the horror community.

The Hear Us Scream team has organized different tiers of support packages, with various perks including copies of the Volume Two e-book, paperback, an exclusive Hear Us Scream t-shirt, and more. For those unable to support monetarily, the team asks they consider sharing this campaign on social media to raise awareness.

Benstead had this to say about the project, "This anthology series is something that I hold so close to my heart. This has been such an incredibly important and life-changing opportunity to get to know so many wonderful people in our community. It's an honor to be trusted with these stories and I cannot wait for them to be shared with all the horror community."

If you’d like to support the campaign, you can learn more on Indiegogo and follow for updates on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or hearusscream.com. Hear Us Scream: The Voices of Horror Volume One (2021) is available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
